Reminiscences of old Sheffield Its Streets and its people Edited by Robert Eadon Leader B.A.
Have you ever sat there and listened with great
interest the older members of your family when they get together and
talk about old times? You have? I know we at Acorn Genealogy have,
and have sometimes wondered how we can get these narratives into one
source. Well, we have succeeded, and this book seems to do just that.
What follows in the book is a thread of discussions between some notable
men of Sheffield and their memories of the streets, its peoples and its
customs.
The idea of the book was developed after a
number of articles were published in the Sheffield and Rotherham
Independent Newspaper between 1872 and 1873, and the wish of many to
have these contributions to our folk lore more readily accessible,
this book was borne.
Adapting this book into a stage play would
be easy, since it is set up in such a way that one would not have
to change a thing.
A fascinating read from the beginning to
the end especially, but not confined to, those with an interest in
this once great city of steel.
